youtube: Teaching, grad school, & vlogs
I selected a few videos from my channel that may be useful to you as a history teacher or grad student. I share information that I wish I had access to during the early years of my teaching career and before I started my doctoral degree process. For more videos like these, check out my entire channel, here.
EdD vs. PhD : How I selected the Right Program for me.
I filmed this video to counter some of the misconceptions that persist around the EdD and help others who might be trying to decide which program is right for them. Every doctoral program in the field of education, EdD or PhD, varies. I break down what you should be looking for beyond the acronym to make sure the program fits your goals, lifestyle, and expectations in this video. I hope it is helpful!
Teaching with Primary sources
I am filming this mini-series in three parts. Part 1 covered a) why we should use primary source analysis in the secondary history classroom; b) how we can start to incorporate these skills; c) some useful resources for teachers who want to start this process. Part 2 shared my 6 tips for designing these activities. The final part (3) will give more specific tips for implementing these practices and being reflective about that process.
Middle school history teachers
This video was made somewhat on a whim, but it resonated with me then and still does today. I had been thinking about the challenges of teaching historical thinking skills in the classroom and decided to share my thoughts with all of you. What do you think about the inclusion of primary source analysis in our classrooms? What challenges and successes have you had? Let me know in the comments of this video!
